Emotion Moon Phase
An encounter with touch, light and scent, exploring emotion through the body.

The question
How can invisible emotional changes become a tangible, multisensory encounter? I use lunar phases as a poetic framework for thinking about the body, change and emotional awareness.
Material and interaction
Five glass vessels contain abstract anatomical forms and luminous gas. Touching the surface influences the visible electrical response, creating a direct relationship between a gesture and a changing light pattern. Seven scented candle forms extend the project through smell, form and references to Chinese lunar culture.
What I made
An installation combining glass, stainless steel, neon/argon, fragrance and wax, documented at 1.8 × 2 × 1.1 m. The portfolio records the illuminated vessels, touch interaction, candle studies and exhibition presentation. Recipient of the 2026 Xu Qinsong Scholarship Bronze Award, as recorded in my CV.
Questions for HCI
I want to investigate how people interpret sensory feedback and whether an installation can support self-expression without prescribing an emotion. A future study could examine response legibility, comfort and participant choice. These are research directions, not completed user-study findings. Lunar-emotional connections are an artistic metaphor here, not an established scientific mechanism.
